Sunday Day Two: February 8th

 Today was amazing. I was awakened by birds singing, finding out that it was 8:00 and I had half an hour to get to church! My phone and watch were both dead because the power went out and they didn't charge. 

I walked in the general direction that I knew was church and just kept asking strangers on the way for directions. Everyone was so kind. I finally talked to a man on a bicycle and he said see those ladies over there? they are headed to St. John's follow them, they are church ladies. 

I was greeted by Father Dauson. He welcomed me. The church is modest and beautiful. We sang on our own, no organ, no piano. The opening song was my song "Here I am Lord". I knew God helped me get to St. John's and was there to greet me. 

I walked back to the house. The girls and I walked to De Tatch restaurant for lunch/brunch. We then walked thorugh the art festival for the day. I talked to St. John's teachers, raising money for their school. St. John's was the first church on Placencia. 

We ended the day with late lunch at The Shak on the pier. There was a drummer band of school age chilcren from an after school program that were amazing. 

We decided to stay in tonight. I go snorkling tomorrow.

Monday Day Three: Feb. 9th

 This was my snorkle day. The weather was wet and rainy and cold! I went to their UNESCO National Park: Laughing Bird Caye National Park. We had a guide in the water with us, pointing out fish and choral as we snorkeled. There were also two other guides with us as well. There were a family of four, two women traveling together and another couple. The two women stayed close to me and helped me with my fins and kept me on track when I strayed from the group. We had lunch on the caye of one of the island's signature dishes: stewed chicken, beans and rice and pasta salad. then we went back in the water for a second trip. The snorkeling itself was fun but the ride back was so very cold. Thank goodness for the wetsuits and the towels we wrapped around ourselves. I got sick from this trip, a sinus infection affair but I'm feeling a lot better as I write this on Thursday! I used a saline rinse and sudafed which really really helped. That and a lot of sleep the last couple of nights.  ...

Wednesday Day Five: February 11th

 Today was Monkey River Jungle Tour. We went about 40 minutes to the River, then meandered through the river, took a short little walk through the jungle examining different flora/fauna. Our guide described the medicinal purpose of each plant. We did see howler monkeys up high in the canopy. We went to the village, had lunch of stewed chicken rice and beans. A fun day.  We ended at Sterlings Restaurant, my favorite restaurant. The service was personable with Carlos. We sat out on a veranda. I had the seafood platter, more than I could eat. Marg and Sandy split a steak that was very tender, more than they could eat too. It was on the next street over, which I haven't really explored we are going to do that Thursday.
